ISPAI is playing a vital role

ISPAI members actively support and promote the Hotline as part of the terms of self-regulation of the Internet industry which were agreed with government in 1998.

ISPAI logo In 2008 the ISPAI had 23 members who support the Hotline. These were (in no particular order), Eircom, BT Ireland, O2, Vodafone, HEAtnet, Verizon, , Irish Broadband, UPC (Chorus/NTL), Google, UTV-internet, Meteor, Irish Domains, Clearwire, Blacknight, Hutchinson 3G Ireland, Bitbuzz, EuroKom, Smart telecom, MyHost, Hosting Ireland, Perlico, Satellite Broadband and Strencom.

A key aspect of the ISPAI Code of Practice and Ethics is commitment to the Hotline and adherence to its procedures for “notice and take down” agreed with Government and An Garda Síochána in the event of illegal content or customer use being discovered on their facilities. We very much recommend that new entrants to the Irish Internet hosting and access market and, of course, ISPs which are not members consider joining the ISPAI. In so doing they not only commit to self-regulation, which has proved to be successful and workable, but also play their part in financially supporting Hotline.ie.

Subscribing to the ISPAI also contributes to the financing of the international efforts mounted by the Hotline and its INHOPE counterparts in the global fight against criminal use of the Internet, especially for the distribution of child pornography. It is incumbent on the Irish Internet services industry to work in concert against the possibility of illegal content being hosted in or distributed from this country; so the zero incidence record, of which Ireland should be very proud, is not lost.

The objective of this work is to generate a safer online environment for ISPs’ customers.
