Operational Background

HOW IT ALL WORKS

The role of Hotline.ie, its creation in 1999 by the ISPAI, its recognition by both the Gardaí and the Government as the approved industry vehicle to combat illegal online content, is detailed in National Hotline.ie while the role it plays on the wider international stage is explained in International Network.

KEEPING A HIGH PROFILE

Visibility is a top priority for the Hotline. How it connects with the public and different interest groups through conferences, forums and other platforms is outlined in Awareness Activities. This reflects the stated aim of Hotline.ie that all relevant groups should work together to keep the Internet safe for all users. In this section you can also read about the important assistance it provides to An Garda Síochána.

INDUSTRY SUPPORT

Hotline.ie receives active support from the ISP industry which finances it through the not-for-profit ISPAI Limited. This body coordinates ISP self-regulation and runs the Hotline on behalf of the membership as agreed with Government. Industry self-regulation is monitored by the Office of Internet Safety. For full details see ISP Industry Support.
