THE ROLE OF THE HOTLINE
The role carried out by Hotline.ie in the Irish context, its creation in 1999 by the ISPAI, its recognition by both An Gardá Síochána and the Government as the approved industry vehicle to combat illegal online content, is detailed in the sub-section National Hotline.ie while the role it plays on the wider international stage is explained in International Network.
KEEPING A HIGH PROFILE
For the Hotline to function visibility is crucial and in Awareness Activities. the way by which it connects with the public and the many different interest groups is explained. This is in accordance with Hotline.ie policy that all relevant groups should work together to keep the Internet safe for users. The important assistance the Hotline provides to An Gardá Síochána is also detailed in this section.
INDUSTRY SUPPORT
The Hotline is financially supported by the Internet Service Providers Association of Ireland (ISPAI), a not-for-profit, self-regulatory association of ISPs, membership of which is voluntary. This body coordinates ISP self-regulation and runs the Hotline on behalf of the membership as agreed with Government. Self regulation is monitored by the Office of Internet Safety Industry.
